Sak Yant
Buddhism and it ́s monks are one of the roots in Khmer culture.
Why I chose exactly the cut, the colour of this dress?
The beautiful cut and the reddish-brown colour resemble the monks of Cambodia the most in my opinion.
The dress is made of 100% linen fabric and is decorated with manytraditional Cambodian Sak Yant motifs.
The original dress is ordered from Menique.
I decorated the dress with different brown fabric paints and marker pencils.

I adapted typical Khmer Sak Yant patterns as some of them have traditional tattoos.
My personal style should also flow into the dress. I wanted to create a garment that suits me and the culture best- simple and comfortable.

What is a Sak Yant tattoo?
What makes it so special? Sak Yant is a unique tattoo that is more than just a tattoo. It is a spiritual journey that can take years. Each yantra (a kind of mystical diagram) tells a story, protects the person or fills an emptiness in the heart. It is then tattooed after consultation with the master to ensure the right decision. This technique requires mindfulness from the selection of the yantra to the offerings to the master and the subsequent blessings – the tattooing process itself must be felt throughout the ceremony. It is claimed that the pain is greater than with modern tattoos, but that is exactly the goal. Once the yantra has been selected and offerings have been made, the tattoo is pierced using either a traditional bamboo stick (which has been slightly modified so that a new hygienic needle can be used each time) or a modern tattoo gun, depending on therecipient wishes. Modern ink is also used as it lasts longer, although traditional ink is occasionally used. This is naturally made from Cambodian plants and minerals that are spiritually blessed and are said to have a stronger effect.

The Difference Between Sak yant and a Machine
For Sak Yant, traditional bamboo methods are used. Sterilized tattoo needles are attached to antibacterial wood and then used to press small amounts of ink into the skin. This results in a much faster healing than with a Maschine.ie blessing leads local master, as he has gained knowledge of this ancient tradition. At the same time, he hires selected apprentices. Meanings behind each character.
The Blessing
The Sak Yant tattoo has a long history that is deeply rooted in Khmer culture and has great spiritual significance. Sak Yant tattoos come from the Khmer language, where Yant denotes magical diagrams or sacred geometric patterns, and means. These tattoos are said to bring protection, good luck, and other spiritual benefits. Originally, only warriors and monks were allowed to wear Sak Yant tattoos, which strengthened their steadfastness, bravery and spiritual strength. During tattooing, the monk or master channels spiritual energy into the design, giving it blessings and protection. Each design holds unique meanings and powers. The rituals, which involve offerings, blessings and the activation of the relationship between teacher (giver) and student (receiver), are undoubtedly the most important part of Khmer Sak Yant. In order to give the Yantra the right komlang (power) that the wearer wants to carry with him, the Kru that bestows it must be balanced and concentrated.
Each expert has his or her own style.
According to the convention, every teacher must put on a set of accessories before tattooing. These accessories include seven different types of fruit, ten lotus trees, five khans, and 50,000 riels on the fruit. When students offer fruit on the altar, they pray in memory of their
teacher, wish each other luck, get tattoos, draw strength, and so on. This is called a reminder of
gratitude.

My personal experience with traditional tattoos
Me personally, I love tattoos, no matter what kind (whether fine line, flash or sak yant). I have 5 of them myself. I think the skin is like a personal diary. It traces our history.Whether scars, rough spots, smooth spots... each area tells its own story. I use tattoos to process special events that have happened in my life. Sak yant is one of my favourite methods because I feel an even more intimate connection to my body, soul and spirit. A certain kind of devotion just for myself with reward. In my opinion, there is something spiritual and healing about it. With a good breathing technique and his personal mantra,I can feel the intense pain during the stabbing well. I also think it is wonderful that you spend a long time with preparation, tattooing and blessing. This makes the experience more intimate.

The Sak Yant Master and His
Apprentices
After the master has familiarized himself with this ancient tradition, he continues to learn. At the same time, he selects apprentices. It is not for everyone, and applicants must follow this calling and make an effort, fight (not literally) for their position and prove their dedication. You start by studying the alphabet and vowels of the Sak-Yant language, which comes from Balinese Sanskrit and is used by Buddhist monks in Cambodian pagodas. After the first step, they study about 50 basic symbols, followed by mantras (spiritual words in Sanskrit) and the meanings behind.
